It is nearly Valentine's Day and kisses will be shared by many. A KISS can range from a friendly Kiss on the cheek to a passionate Kiss on the lips. But have you ever wondered about the bacteria in a KISS? Maybe not, but I find it interesting as a biology teacher and fermentor of foods.
In my FerMENTOR Classes, we talk a lot about the "Good Guy" and "Bad Guy" bacteria. Good guy bacteria re the ones found in fermented foods and work to build your gut health and immunity towards diseases. Keeping these "good guy" bacteria in high numbers in our gut provides healing to the lining of our stomach and intestinal tract. Many of the foods or "food-like" substances we eat during the day can kill off these good bacteria, chemicals in processed foods, white processed sugar and flour, just to name a few. That is why I encourage my clients and others to include plenty of fermented foods in your daily diet. Foods like, kefir and sauerkraut have a high number of these "good guy" bacteria and help to maintain a healthy level of bacteria in your body.
As we prepare for our first ferMENTOR Class of the year, I would like to share with you an article written by my FerMENTOR Donna Schwenk, who did a bit of research on the topic of Bacteria in a KISS. You can read her article below or listen to her podcast.
